Sewing Alexa Jumpsuit in Meet Milk Two Tone Tencel Twill

by Polina K

Last months Sharlene from S.O.Sewdressmaking did a guest blog making Alexa Jumpsuit by Tilly and the Buttons in our Merchant & Mills Nutmeg linen.  Since then, i knew i wanted to test this pattern myself but was just waiting for the right fabric choice.

I wanted to create a very elegant, clean, classy jumpsuit that i can style with funky trainers and a cross body bag so two tone tencel in warm sand by Meet Milk was the most perfect fabric choice.

Sanded texture of this Meet Milk twill tencel gives the fabric very cozy and warm handfeel.

My pattern changes to Alexa jumpsuit

I decided not to add any pockets or sleeve tabs as i wanted very clean look.

I lengthened the sleeves by 30 cm as i wanted to wear this without layers during autumn. All I did was extend the sleeve pattern by 30cm on both front and back panels. I am sure there is a ‘proper’ way of doing it, but as the fit of this pattern is very relaxed, this simple extension of sleeve pattern worked very well.

I shortened the legs by 7 cm and tapered them just tiny bit. In hindsight  not sure if tapering did anything, so would worry about it too much.

I love the look of rolled up sleeves and trousers but dont like how messy it often looks, so i decided to secure the roll ups by stitching in a ditch. It is not visible and this way i know my sleeves wont roll down.

I was looking for buttons for a while, not realizing that i have a great match on our website, i chose white recycled resin buttons by Merchant & Mills.

I am very pleased with the look of this jumpsuit, for next one i would like to make a separate pattern for sleeves and set them in, this way i can avoid a seam going across to arms.

The crotch seam hangs quite low and this is the style of the jumpsuit, but i will probably raise it by about 3 cm next time.

The alexa jumpsuit pattern is very beginner friendly and if you have an overlocker, this is a very quick sew. If you dont have an overlocker and would like a clean finish, this pattern will work great with french seams.

Alexa by Tilly and the Buttons

Alexa jumpsuit is a PDF pattern that can be purchased directly from Tilly and the Buttons website and there is a lot of great information if you need help with adjusting the pattern or grading between sizes.

Sharlene has done a Youtube video on how to add slash pockets. If you would like to add side pockets, Homer + Howells have done a great blog post on how to add pockets to your sewing projects.

Cant wait for slightly cooler weather so i can start wearing this cosy meet milk Alexa jumpsuit.
