Sewing pattern description
A classic French smock shirt sewing pattern by The Modern Sewing Co.
The silhouette of the French Smock is slouchy and oversized with a very square cut, dropped shoulders, neat sleeves and a simple round neck. The simplicity of the cut frees up room for the optional surface design features.
The choice of fastening will determine the character of your garment and you can play with the other optional features to suit the overall look and feel of the piece.
This sewing pattern is drafted for a body height of 5’8″ and a cup size ‘C’.
Recommended fabrics: If you’re looking to make a soft billowy blouse fabrics such as linen, poplin, lawn are perfect. For a mid-weight blouse you could opt for a twill or denim. Or for a much heavier smock corduroy, heavier denim, quilting, wool suiting or even a lightweight wool felt would work but you still need to make sure the fabric has some flexibility to make it a comfy garment to wear.
