The Modern Sewing Co PDF Rib Sweater Sewing Pattern
The rib sweater sewing pattern by The Modern Sewing Co is an answer to a slouchy jersey jumper but with a bit more style.
This pattern comes with two options for the collar height, the full version and a shorter version that sits lower on the neck. It is a simple piece to make which means it’s a great project for beginners.
The beauty of this piece is in the fabrics and how they play together. Take your time finding a jersey & ribbing that work together as this is the nicest aspect of the garment.
You’ll be using a simple overlocked/stretched seam type along with a very small amount
of topstitching.

Sewing pattern description
The rib sweater sewing pattern has a feel of a big cosy sweatshirt that somehow manages to feel both supremely relaxed yet chic.
The main feature of this garment is the voluminous sleeve and the use of ribbing to create an extended cut with a matching hem and collar.
For this garment you will need to source two different fabrics: Jersey & Ribbing
For the jersey: The goal for this piece is for it to feel cosy and warm to wear so we would recommend choosing a medium-heavy weight jersey. A sweatshirt fleece jersey or French terry are both nice options. Your main fabric should weigh in at around 300-500g/m2.
For the ribbing: Ribbing is a type of jersey that is knitted into grooves. It is often knitted as a tube
so you might be buying a tubular piece of fabric instead of a flat single layer. For this garment we recommend choosing a ‘chunky’ ribbing which might weight in at around 300-500g/m2.
