Luckily for all of us, the Good Fabric team has been kept busy finding the best swimsuit sewing patterns so that you don’t have to work up a sweat. From stylish bikinis to sporty one-pieces and everything in between, here are our favourite looks for the upcoming sunny season. Enjoy!
Before diving into our top picks for your summer swimwear, we couldn’t not mention our go-to fave swimwear fabric, Econyl Nylon Lycra. We stock this super stretchy, sporty material in Standard, Light, and Swimwear Lining, and we highly recommend Econyl Light for your next swimsuit project.
This is THE best swimwear fabric of all time – hands down. With in-built UV protection and a huge choice of colours to pick from it’s the ultimate GOAT of seaside style. It’s also oil and sunscreen-resistant so you can wave goodbye to pesky stains.
Most swimsuit sewing patterns will also need a lining, and the handy Econyl Swimwear Lining fabric is a great choice to keep in your haberdashery. Or, if you’re looking for some extra support, use Econyl as main and lining for a double-whammy support.Â

For our expert sewists, the Hello Sunshine swimsuit sewing pattern comes with all the frills - literally! The triangle-shaped top is finished with super cute ruffles for an oh-so-girly look.Â
For the bottoms, you can opt for a regular waistband or shake things up with a hip tie for adjustable sizing and a stylish finish.Â
When it comes to sewing swimwear, who said you had to pick between a bikini and a swimsuit? Have your cake and eat it too with the Coralie swimwear sewing pattern. Choose a one-piece with a high or low back, a bikini with high-wasted bottoms, or switch things up with low-waist bottoms and leg ruffles. You can also add an optional shelf bra and cups, making this one of the most versatile patterns on our list.
With a retro bust cut-out and tie-up front, the Zahra Swimsuit and Bikini sewing pattern oozes old-school glamour.
Choose between a one-piece and a high-waisted bikini, both of which provide plenty of support thanks to lovely wide bands. Pair with an oversized floppy hat and vintage beach bag for an effortlessly stylish look.
Looking to jazz up your shoulder straps? Look no further than the Kaia Swimsuit sewing pattern. A gorgeous twisted front gives a faux-halterneck illusion, before turning into standard, supportive straps down the back.
A built-in shelf bra adds to the support, and sewists can choose between a one-piece and a bikini for stylish swimwear.
The Freya Swimsuit pattern is the perfect choice for sewing simple swimwear that looks good. A flattering low back adds a little glamour to the swimming costume, while an optional cut-out on the front takes it from sporty to sun lounger-ready.
We love the adjustable straps on this swimsuit, too, and the tiny hoop details at the back are a winner!
Girlies who love to look cute while staying supported will adore the Vernazza Bikini sewing pattern. Providing plenty of coverage where you need it, you can swim, run, and frolic under the sun without worry.
Tank straps are ideal for bigger busts and the higher-waisted bottoms don’t skimp around the booty, while the tie front adds a flirty touch.
If you’re on the hunt for swimwear sewing patterns that’ll see you through the entire summer, the Cottesloe Swimsuit has everything you need. With templates for a one-piece or bikini, with thick and thin straps, high-waists and low rises, scoop backs or sporty bands, it’s pretty killer when it comes to pattern options! You might never need another swimsuit sewing pattern again.
From a quick splash with little ones to swimming 100 metres before breakfast, the Faye Swimwear sewing pattern has all our sporty sewists covered. Play around with different straps and switch between bikinis and swimsuits to find your go-to look.
Psst - we’ve also done a blog looking at how to sew the Faye swimsuit! Give it a read for plenty of beginner-friendly tips.
She’s cute, she’s simple, and she’ll keep you covered up; we love everything about the Frankie One Piece! This swimwear sewing pattern has a flattering square neck and an adorable (optional) waist tie, adding a little touch of glamour to your days at the beach.
For bigger busts, there’s a specific DD+ pattern option with a supportive darts, blending style and function perfectly.
Made for our sewist gals who love to be active, it doesn’t get sportier than the Sandpiper Two-Piece sewing pattern. Designed for water sports, lengths in the pool, and sandy sports (a round of volleyball, anyone?), choose from high-waisted and low-rise bottoms for this no-frills look. You can also turn the swimsuit top into a workout tank, which we think is pretty cool.
Ooh la la, the Lucca Swimming Costume sewing pattern is giving feminine glamour. An asymmetric cut creates a relaxed off-the-shoulder look, while optional ruffles make this look catwalk-ready.
Strut your stuff by the pool and feel your very best in this super stylish swimsuit.
Australians are beach style experts, so it makes sense that Aussie brand Swim Style has got it just right with their Tidal Bikini sewing pattern. A classic cut bikini top that’s pretty straightforward to sew, they shake things up with a one-shoulder look.
Browse through their bikini bottom patterns for a matching set.
You’ve got the swimwear sewing patterns, now it’s time to find your fabric. Head over to our Econyl fabrics to browse your options.
We also wanted to give a quick shout-out to Organic Cotton Elastics, which are perfect for your sustainable swimwear sewing patterns. They’re plastic-free, biodegradable, and tested against both chlorine and heat for a longer lifespan than other options. We also have a super handy Clear Elastic if that’s more up your street.
